I don't think there is much to put into a write-up this time round, things for the most part went smoothly, chilli was cooked and the power stayed on - thanks I believe to us renting some decent power cables from the fatboylan people.
The dates of 17 and 18 have been announced as being July 4th-6th and September 12th-14th so put them in your calendar, book the days of work, book flights and then NO EXCUSES! This has been a problem at recent LANs - I'm not sure if it's the increased number and certainty that there will be another that's the cause or just people moving on to other things but at this LAN there were only 8 FUKers, with 4 of those only being present for about half the LAN. These really are superb LANs and well worth making the effort to come to. I feel I need to make a correction to my previous write-up of this venue, here in that needs to be made is that there is actually "stuff" near to the hall - near is of course relative but if you go left rather than right out of the hall there are pubs, a greasy spoon and even a station (Aldermaston) although this doesn't seem to operate on a Sunday which is unfortunate.
This time round the main games played were CoD4, TF2 and "Find the faulty four gang", the later probably meaning that this lan will forever be know as "the one with the powercuts". Hopefully this will be the only one to bare that epithet as plans are afoot to improve the electrics in the hall as the other group who use the hall for lans have also been having problems.
It was also mentioned at the lan that due to the outcome of elections to the commitee of the Slough Sikh community hall it is likely that we will again have the option of the hall at it's old rate (£500 ish per weekend) rather than what the hall were trying to charge us (£1100 per day) - both of these still being higher than the £150-200 for the Padworth hall for a weekend.
My person feeling is that we should stick with the Padworth hall with Slough as perhaps a backup. Whilst there are some advantages to the Slough venue I think that the attitude of the owners combined with the disruption of the random people walking through makes the Padworth the easy winner. There is also the question of the financials - I believe that with a Slough lan Kanga has previously struggled to collect enough money to pay the hall - that isn't quite the same as saying not enough people came but the end result is the same. With the arrangements as they are for the Padworth hall there looks like there will be a small surplus to the lan which, importantly stops the people running it having to stress about getting enough cash and also perhaps gives us a little float for bits and pieces for the venue if needed. Anyway, discuss.
The only thing I would suggest is that for the next LAN here there be less people, or more specifically less desks than there were this time. One of the good things about a Slough lan has been that if someone has something interesting on their screen such as a highly informative video on fisting it's possible for everyone else to cluster round and watch. This is probably unrealistic for a venue as small as Padworth but by removing selective desks from the room it should be possible to create enough space somewhere for this kind of thing. Maybe.
Lan "Awards" have been done and shall be appearing sometime tomorrow. In the meantime if anyone has taken any photos can they zip them up and put them somewhere for me to grab. I guess for completeness' sake I could do with any anyone have for 14 too.

We have a venue booked, Padworth, map link below.
Thing is, spaces are in short supply and we can probably get around 25 to 30 people in there, so with this in mind we are opening up sign ups to FUKkers first. Then, probably at the start of November, it will be opened up to all.
So, what we need to know, is who is going to attend? Don't dilly and dally, just put your name down here now and say "yes, fuck it, I'm there!"
Costs are £15 a head, so pretty reasonable.

In order to join in the fun now you need to buy the Orange Box - basically everything in the world to do with HL2 for about £25 after taxes etc. For a sizeable chunk of people this will mean you now own two copies of HL2. Valves solution to this is to allow you to give the duplicate copy to someone else although this doesn't help them play TF2 as they can't buy it (at the moment) without HL2 so the cycle continues.
I shall be posting my own review as a comment to this so have a look there. I will try and organise a server, a downloadable TFinaBox (also known as "Speak to Rigs"), and sort out a 3 hour slot.
We could do north vs south, or just a free for all.
I will also try and get 2 servers running for overflow or people that want to maybe do something more organised if we are just doing the free for all.

Now begins the planning for the next one. I've spoken to the caretaker at the hall and currently the only weekend available for September/October period is September the 7th-9th. this weekend might also not be any good as there is a possible booking already. Failing that the next time is early November.
Please say if you are unavailable ANY weekend in November, should we need to revise the date to then and we'll try and pick the best one for people. Also say if you are available for the September dates and if you're free, plan for LL15 being then for now (should have confirmation either way within the week). | | 4 replies | [Take it to the forum ] | | | | | Posted by Phat_Ass | 19/02/07 | | LawLan 14 provisionally booked. | Yes, shockingly early i know but the dates for LawLan 14 have been provisionally booked, purely as a matter of convenience when i returned the keys from the last one, but it works out well. The dates are the 15-17th June and are at the same place as LL13 (cursed lan that it was, oh the humanity).
Information for the location is on the lawlan website as usual with a soon be be empty sign up page once th dates are confirmed.
